Yuck The Fankees!

So I am sitting here watching the All-Star red carpet ceremonies on FOX. I am sick and tired of it being turned into a Yankees moment show. Granted the game is being held at Yankee Stadium, Granted it is the last season for Yankee Stadium. Granted there has been alot of history and Greats of the Game. But when did it become about the venue and not the players. Sitting here they are discussing what is your greatest moment at Yankee Stadium. What the hell does that have to do with anything with this years All-Star game. For god sakes hold another event and reminisce about the good times of the Stadium. Why take the spotlight away from today's all stars and the past. Why can't it be about them. Leave god damn Yankee stadium out of it.

Sorry just irritated. Sick of hearing it!

Ya know Brad I do see your point. However I've got a different perspective on it. From my own personal life the thoughts I had about Yankee Stadium were Reggie Jackson, Dave Raghetti, being there in the early 90's, the Yankee teams of the late 90's, and finally Aaron you know what goes here Boone. But now when I think of Yankee Stadium I think of Josh Beckett in Game 6 of the 03 World Series, Curt Schilling and the bloody sock, Mark Bellhorn's *KA SHEESH* off the right field foul pole, Johnny Damon in Game 7, and being there for Jon Lester's complete game shutout. Yeah there is a lot of history with Yankee Stadium and there is a lot of recent things that have happened there that are pretty damn special for us. And tonight while it may all be about the 80 some odd years of Yankee Stadium, 7 Red Sox players are there to 3 Yankees. And Terry Francona of the World Champion Boston Red Sox and his coaching staff of the same World Champion Boston Red Sox are the ones that are there at the last All-Star game ever to be played at Yankee Stadium. And ya know, that's something I'm pretty happy about. ...View More

See that is fine and I agree there are some great moments! But why take away the spotlight from the guys that earned their time to shine. Why make it about the stadium. Like I said before have another show about the Stadium and its moments. I am not disagreeing with you at all there has been some awesome moments at Yankee Stadium and should be shown and talked about. Just not at the All star game. ...View More

Oh, my bad, I went off on another tangent. But the original question is pretty simple, it's a FOX production, it isn't about an All-Star game or even baseball, it's about a show and about being entertained. (No I don't agree with it but it is what it is)

I understand where both of you are coming from. However, I was simply struck by Willie Mays and how emotional seeing him made me. I don't know why; I never really followed the National League. I just kept thinking, "Don't cry, Willie, don't cry," and I started to fight back tears. Brooks Robinson, Ozzie Smith, Al Kaline, Phil Niekro...I was very moved by seeing them and the rest of the "old school" guys. I REFUSE to let the Fox commentators OR the Yankee fans, who have the nerve to boo the Red Sox, ruin my experience. I have a bond with a lot of those older players, so I was standing in my living room, clapping for them. My dogs thought I was nuts (I am when it comes to baseball, but that's for another blog--LOL). To see what it meant for them to be there made the night for me. (I had entered the Baby Ruth sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" contest. I made for the first cut. They called me and asked if I thought I could sing in front of that many people. I told them I could. I would have worn my Red Sox hat, just like I did in the audition tape. That's probably why I didn't make the finals!!!) ...View More

I sooooo hear you! And then the fact that the fans boo'd the Sox was just totally classless. In a game where we are playing AGAINST the Yankees, that's fine but when we're on the same team, well..that's just childish and tells me something about the Yankee fan, in general.

I'm with Imposssible Dream...I LOVED seeing the players I grew up watching...especially Willie Mays & Hank Aaron! I love seeing the old timers and not anyone-not Fox, Steinbrenner, the Yanks or their fans could've spoiled it for me-NO WAY-NO HOW! (Would've loved to see Yaz though!!!)

Yeah for me it was special seeing players I grew up watching too (Although those players were Boggs, George Brett, Robin Yount, and Mike Schmidt) Yeah without Yastrsemski and Fisk (Bobby Doerr quit traveling) there was definitely something missing. Boggs wearing the Yankee hat hurt a bit. But let the Yankees have their past, we've got today.

I think you guys made the point in exactly what you said. FOX may be making an effort to make it "all about the Yankees" but you guys are seeing it for what it's for. So obviously their ploy didn't work. The REAL baseball fans (such as all of us responding on here) are looking through all of the hubbub and seeing this game for what it's for.
