Sympathy for the Devil?
May 5, 2008

As I was watching ESPN today on this Fitfth of may i Smiled for a few reasons.

I smiled when the Celtics won the game 7 of the first round of the playoffs.

I smiled when the Sox came on as they swept the Rays.(as they should)

But Most of all, i smiled to know that ERIC GAGNE is no where near Boston. Eric Gagne has blown 5 saves this season ALREADY. Thinking about this further i questioned myself for about two seconds to show sympathy for the FatFuk. Nope. NONE. ZIP. ZILCH. NADDA. not one ounce of sympathy.

I think its pretty safe to say that whatever success he has had in his career can be chalked up to "Performance Enhancing Success." It says juice all over his forehead. (allegedly)

Bringing me to my next point. Manny Del Carmen.

I love the kid i think hes great to have in the clubhouse. HOWEVER, he is having a GAGNE-esque start to the season. I really hope he is sent down to the minors to REALLY work out some kinks. I think its just as simple as a mechanic/confidence issue. He is young and can work it out. But you cannot keep putting the kid in the game in his current condition. I believe you are only harming him by playing him when something is obviously not right with his mechanics.

Finally, I would like to praise Okajima. The man has been truly an unsung hero with PHENOMINAL NUMBERS. on more than a couple occasions we have brought him in to "do or die" scenario's...AND HE DOES! I feel just as comfortable with him coming to the mound as i do with J Paps.

Lookiing forward to Detroit...gonna be a good series...

LGRS!!!!!

I think you hit the nail on the head with Gagne man. PED's...All of that said, his work ethic doesn't help either. The same thing can not be said about Manny Delcarmen. He does have a good work ethic which is precisely why I agree with you about allowing him to go down to Pawtucket for a lil while to work out the kinks. He's got good stuff...He just needs to find his confidence and location again. Okajima is quickly proving that last year was not a fluke. Good stuff Dyn. ...View More

I'm a bit less than sympathetic towards Gagne myself but as the old adage goes, "If ya don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" (Well except to Seamus of course cuz he's from Wisconsin.) Anyways as far as Manny Delcarmen goes, I like him too but he's definitely glitching somewhere. A little time in Pawtuckett probably wouldn't be a bad idea. The only criticism I have with Francona's managerial style is some of the moves he makes, ie bringing Schill back as a closer his first game against the Yankees instead of waiting another game or two to bring him in against the D-Rays, bringing in Cla Meredith to pitch to Richie Sexson with bases loaded, etc etc, and bringing Manny Delcarmen in to pitch to Frank Thomas twice in two days. Anyways I've rambled enough. Keep the Faith; 14/09 ...View More

Great blog Joe and your spot on in your evaluation of Delcarmen he is a good kid with great stuff and will be an asset for years but right now he needs to go back to the minors for some work , as far as Gagne goes hes a roider and his work ethic sucks

Gagne belongs in Hollywood...I am glad to be rid of him so I dont feel guilty rolling his punkass under the proverbial bus....Delcarmen will come around...he needs to go visit WickedJen for a spell...agreed...nice blog.

I can't believe what Gagne has come to. That guy used to be lights out. Game Over! Its amazing, the turnaround. As for Delcarmen, that guy has a killer fastball and good curve. The guy has good stuff but struggles with control and throwing the right pitches at the right time. You're right, he needs some time in AAA.

well done man. couldnt agree more about gagne. I could watch him squander leads and watch his fast ball get jacked into the night sky as long hes wearing any other hat besides a Boston one.
