Too Much Fire?

Now. .first and foremost this Red Sox Fan likes a little fire, but. . and i mean this with all fiber of my being, I'd of thought that Coco, a vetran, leader on the field, example has to weight, we have our DH out. . our LF in DH, and if i go out. . that's just a minor leaguer in the OF. . so I should probably be the bigger man and take my best, and avoid a problem.

Then, to add to the irony, after Coco gets ejected, and carter the last OF we have on the bench, and a minor leaguer in, Then Ellsbury gets out with a hurt wrist. Youk steps up plays RF, Drew in CF and carter in LF.

You think it can't get worse eh?

Hold on to your hats, and we all know what happens,

Apparently YOUK and Manny go at it in the dug out, to what extent? no one knows and everyone is being hush hush to avoid further embarassment.

I know New Englanders are usually fiery, fight it out, type people, and that's admirable. But, there comes a time, especially when injuries are plaguing our team for the upper road, sure he threw at coco, but coco had a questionable slide the night before, retribution ONLY leads to trouble (as you can see on both sides)...

NOW sure. .i say it's only an early (ISH) regular season game, so sure. . stick up for yourself now, in a game that doesn't mean anything playoff wise, I see that point, and I realize. if a pitcher beans ya. .he should know he's in deep well. . DOO DOO.. I got that..... BUT. . what about this

Take the high road.

what? Dave, your'e saying be a PUSS#$ and whimp out? . . .

NOPE

Take the high road, be a bigger man. be the grownup....

what could possibl hurt more than the guy you beaned on first, shoot give him the evil eye, talk smack. . BUT SCORE on him .and hurt him where it hurts..statistically. . then maybe he'll get fined for the bean, and you'll be just fine adding to your OBA and Runs scored, isn't that the game?

I still say, and always has, it takes MORE strength, MORE character to take the upper road, breathe, wait a beat, and decide the right thing to do!

So. . take this as you will, but I think the Sox need to cool down, before they implode or explode, we have to get creative in a bit for the next few games, and lets all be grown ups, get along and save the hating for the yankees!

Please?

Diplomatic Dave

I think Coco has been frustrated since coming to Boston. He's had a lot of injuries and things haven't gone his way.. now he is fighting for his job and maybe his career. Let's not forget Coco played hurt at the end of last season so Papi and Manny could sit, then volunteered to sit so Jacobi could play in the WS. He has taken alot for this team and being thrown at, when all he is trying to do is play some agressive baseball, was probably the last straw. Manny swinging at Youk, was so out of character and I bet today they'll be showing some love for one another to erase that from our memories. As Tito said they have alot of testosterone flowing in the clubhouse and stuff happens. It's over now and they'll move past it.

I sort of see your point but you are on the wrong path "NOW sure. .i say it's only an early (ISH) regular season game, so sure. . stick up for yourself now, in a game that doesn't mean anything playoff wise" ARE YOU NUTS...why would you think that it make more sense that COCO only do something in a playoff game...so we can lose a player when it counts...NO that would be stupid, yes we have other players out and on the DL but Jacoby wasnt out when it happened and the Manny=Youk deal didnt happen till later. Who could of predicted that, he stood up for what he thought was right! I stand behind this team and that means what the players do on the field, I would have done the same thing!

I'm saying that maybe it makes it ok to be a little more like this WHEN it's not the playoffs. .and not much is on the line. . .. . so sure. . take your charges.. go to the mound. i can see that. i'm saying in the playoffs you BETTER BUCK UP and be the bigger man! and Coco didn't VOLUNTEER To sit to make room for Jacoby. . he was slumping. . he was benched. . . sorry...excuses alike. . he's the vetran. he's paid like it..and should act like it. . it takes MORE strength to take the upper road and I'll stand by that!

you gotta remember the signals it sends when someone, in the case, Coco, won't take ANY garbage from ANYone. Chances are, you're less likely to pick on him in the future. Was is childish? You can make a solid case for that. Was it necessary? Yeah, sometimes it really is. Besides, you KNOW 100% you're going to get your point across with a swing of the fist, not necessarily so with the swing of a bat.

I think if you check it out, you'll find he did go to Tito and volunteer to sit. I remember Francona talking about it.

I appreciate what you are saying and I'm not splitting hairs, but he hit Coco, he didn't bean him. I say this because if he really beaned him(hit him in the head) then there would be no debate. The fact he hit him in the leg opens it to debate, I agree. I think after sticking the knee out at Coco the night before and hitting Pedroia in the first, Coco's mind was made up. I'm just glad we won 7-1. Definitely the most interesting game of the year! No disrespect Dave, but I'm glad he did it! It's a long year and maybe it's good to have their pitchers a little leary of hitting our boys!

excellent blog, and i am with you on rising above. but i am not sure that if coco had walked that it would have ended, shields had already hit pedroia, and I am sure that lester would have plunked somebody right back. just seemed like a brawl was going to happen no matter what. shield was just too stupid and heated to let it wait until he got some innings in

Great blog Dave and yes Cocos action s did hurt the team but there was bound to be repercussions anyway and to tell you the truth it hurt them more than us , they lost their starter and no one knew at the time ells would be hurt. but your right especially if you consider a suspension may be forthcoming , but this was inevitable, considering the mindset of all involved,Madden fueled the fire by calling cocs slide bush , as far as Manny and youk go , It weas prob in response to manny being slow to arrive at the scene of the donnybrook and is most likely forgotten by now

This is a great blog. I do understand your point but some people only understand returned agression. I agree there is no better payback than kicking the other team's butt but we managed to do both last night. Keep the Faith; 14/09

I'm glad you wrote this blog, Dave, because it stirred up some healthy discussion. I'm for the high road as well, and using all that fire in the belly to beat your opponent at baseball. The discussion here is good, though, and I enjoyed reading everyone's comments. My take is that the entire team was frustrated on Thursday--injuries, the set-up fight, the bravado, the machismo, whatever you want to call it--and this all came out in a variety of ways. And it's true, Coco has been fighting for his job, for his baseball life, as it were, since Ellsbury showed up. I want this to be over and done with and to move on. The team looked quite defeated tonight when they played Seattle. I hope this black cloud over their heads doesn't last much longer.
