 Well the no hitter went out the window in the first inning, but the result was still impressive as Justin Masterson pitched the Red Sox to a two one victory yesterday at the Fens. Masterson three hit the Royals , giving up three bb and getting five ks in the process.
Excited by Lesters no hitter of the previous night , Masterson took the field with dreams of no no’s dancing in his head , on this night it was not meant to be, but with a future as bright as his, you never know, It could happen some day .
Bostons latest pitching sensation got his first major league victory last night. Forced to recall Masterson from Portland after last Fridays double header depleted the staff, he responded with a good outing and insured himself of another look later in the season or next year. Masterson pitched masterfully until he turned the ball over to the pen with one out in the seventh .
The pen responded as Lopez struck out Gload, and Delcarmen was summond to face Collaspo who went down swinging.
Okijima releived Delcarmen to face Dejesus and was promptly doubled to deep right, Grudziak grounded back to the mound and Dejesus moved to third, Oki then walked the next batter, and Guillen struck out swinging , Oki walked Teehan moving Gorden to second. Bases loaded two outs , in comes Papelbon. Who ks Butler to end the threat. Top of the nitnh Paps on the mound first batter grounds out to first and Paps sit’s the next two royals down with k’s to end the game.
End of story , not quite, Masterson earns a promotion and is optioned to Pawtuckett. With the no hitter thrown by Lester matching last years no hitter thrown by Bucholz , and the addition of Masterson to go with veterans Dice k. Tim Wakefield, and Josh beckett next year, the rotation is set for years to come . Add to that the dominance of Paps and Okijima, and the youth of Delcarmen and Hanson the bullpen also looks strong. Add Bartolo Colon, the former Cy Young winner into the mix tonight and we are armed and Dangerous !!
It is indeed a great time to be a Red Sox fan !!!!
So hope for the Bartolo of old to appear tonight, while we attempt a red sox revolution, and try to once again to dethrown Royalty at the fens !! Viva les revolution !!
