Memorial Day is here !!
Hmm lets Roast some weenies, have a cookout, visit Grandma on the cape !!!
HOW BOUT NONE OF THE ABOVE !!
How about celebrating Memorial Day for what it is ? How about actually thinking about things you may not want to think about!
Memorial day is not just a day to have cookouts , roast weenies camp out or eat marshmallows , it’s a day to Remember the men and women who served this country !
It’s a day to honor their sacrifices . Yes Sacrifice , there’s a word you don’t hear everyday . Sacrifice . What does it mean do you know. ?
It means giving up something you love for the betterment of all. that’s one definition, and this definition, destruction or surrender of something held dear for the sake of something else. A belief or a religion .
Think a minute wasn’t giving five years of his prime baseball career a sacrifice for Ted Williams . Giving up something he loved baseball, for something he believed in freedom ,
Yes he made a choice, as have millions of others who sacrifice career self and even life for ones country and ones belief , that’s sacrifice. And that boys and girls is the real reason for Memorial Day . A day to give thanks and to honor these men and women who serve to keep us free.
We have men and women serving now as I write this , remember them , remember their sacrifice. They could be here roasting weenies or camping out or visiting the cape , They’re not . They are serving us , serving our country , making their sacrifice so we can have our cookouts eat our weenies and visit the cape.
So today honor them , honor those who came before them , light a candle . Plant a flower in their name . And while your enjoying your weenie , give them a moment of your time and toast those who gave you the freedom to enjoy your memorial day
