Pitching from a 'bloody sock' perspective...inspired by SoxFanNean

I've been thinking about SoxFanNean's point and then some. (If you haven't read it yet, go read it, I'll wait..)
Oh good, you're back. Anyway, the single most contributable factor in all the success that the Red Sox pitching staff is beginning (Ohhhh and it IS only just beginning, my friends!!!!) to have is the 'role model' pitchers that came b4 and set the stage.
Not only are some not even gone yet (Schilling, perfect example!) so the youngins can touch them, talk to them, have lockers next to, see on a day-to-day basis but having such talent (and the re-counting of said talent) around MAKES the not-too-great-yet, into 'greats' themselves! It is a matter of phsycology really...you can't come into a GREAT team w/o having additional expectations on yourself.
Think about it, if you come into a great team but have no experiences that show you 'true grit', that defy logic, that transcend the human abilities...you may or may not be a great player yourself and the expectation is that, you'll never be as GREAT as the ones b4.
But if you come into a great ballclub, with magical stories whirling around, some of the very PEOPLE milling about and treating you like an EQUAL!!! I mean, HOW COOL IS THAT!!! You can NOT dissapoint a Curt Schilling!!!
So, though you may not ever have a bloody sock experience, that doesnt matter, You have the memory, almost as if it WERE you, you have that dream to aspire to, you finally know, beyond the shadow of a doubt that no man on this earth is going to tellyou what you can and can't do and it is ALL up to you!
So as the crowd awaits, at times, with baited breath, you know you have the power to make them all touch Heaven!
PLAY BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY BELOVED RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!
