My rational for the Wild Card..
September 28, 2008

It's a sore subject for some, that we are not in a Division title race and only got in the post-season, via the Wild Card. We maynot have a banner on future display, to show we were the best in this division, but I bet we'll be the Champs, once again.

The Yankees are actually playing ON OUR SIDE! Yeah, you heard me...I said they're playing as if they are on our side...and these are my reasons..

Underlying our WHOLE season and a footnote to almost EVERY critical win, is the list of injuries we have been enduring. That...THAT is going to be  how the Red Sox will 'lift' the bar, if they indeed prove they are the Champions of the world, once again. And you KNOW they will!

In times past, (yeah, I know there weren't MANY but they're beginning to pile up!!! YEAH!) our yellow brick road to OZ never really involved injuries, except to say that there weren't any (to speak of).

This year, and once again - against ALL odds, we have overcome ALL the injuries to get to where we are today. The post-season. But with our injuries continuing and with some various bumps and bruises just plain getting worse, maybe it's a GOOD thing that we tied this post-season bow as early as we could so we could shift our game plan to favor resting our boys.

Think about it for a moment. If the Yankmees didn't beat us the very 1st game and in so doing, avoid any potential run for division,  we wouldn't have the luxury of playing our '2nd string' (and I mean that in the nicest way possible) today. With the 1st game being wrapped on Friday, our prize guys were able to change their focus on resting rather than winning another chance for the playoffs.

And when, during this time of the season, does ANYONE have the luxury of having a key player like Drew, come back from an injury and 'test' his game??

Would it have been nice to be AL East Champs? Oh YEAH! But if it is at the COST of rest for the eventual winner-takes-all-game, I'm GLAD the Yankmees beat us the very 1st game and I just can't WAIT for Aneheim!!

Now, I wish someone would grab Pap by the neck, tell him he's being a selfish little BRAT and to play for the TEAM and not his own ego...but that's asking WAYY too much now, isn't it? LOL

Though it all we still ended up winning 95 games. That ain't so bad. The Rays had a great year, I'll give credit where credit is due. Yeah it would have been nice to take the Division but what matters most is just getting into the playoffs. I like our chances. Keep the Faith; 14/09

Rice HOF..
Remember 1978. Red Sox and Yanks 99 victories each. No wild card in those days. There was a one-game tiebreaker - the winner to move on, and no one else came CLOSE to either of the two teams. I'd rather have a playoff series test than one game.
