I'm SUCH a wimp....
September 29, 2008
Last nite, as the regular season wound to a close, I climbed in bed, snuggled up close to my hubby and slowly, quietly, sobbed. My husband chuckled, petted away my most recent river of tears and reassured me by saying, "I love you, you doober."..afectionatley, of course.
I had the TV on in the livingroom and knowing I couldn't shut the television off without some aid, he reluctantly put the one on in our bedroom and said "Come on, I've got it on in here." I think it was about 1am.
I quickly shut the livingroom one off, rushed to the bedroom so my eyes didn't miss a second. ...of the COMMERCIALl!
Yes, the game was over... about an hour ago now... I'd heard Jerry Remy congratulate Orsillo on another year of great broadcasting togther with a "see you next year" kind of way....' kept echoing in my mind.
That was replaying , complete with the music. Scenes of the past season were replaying too as they had in the after-show production on NESN. I just couldn't let go. I never can.
Maybe because I know that next years team will never be the same as this years team. I learned that a long time ago. See, I got used to the players that would, more or less, stay with one team their entire career. I still haven't gotten used to the fact that they all shift around so often. I have no doubt that it will be better but just different. Who will be on the roster? Will I know any of them? Of course I will, I tell myself. Hey who knows, we may even get Millah back! (the I chuckle at THAT thought).
But there's always the moment between the regular season and the post-season. It makes no difference that we are even IN the post season at that very moment. I try to explain this to myself and I just can't. I try to temper my sad feelings for the end of the regular season with renewed vigor for the post but there is always a moment in time, that I grieve. That I cry. That I sob. like I'm beginning to do right now, in fact.
Ohhh, I AM such a wimp but a RED SOX wimp! AND DON'T ANYBODY EVER FORGET IT!! WE are the BEST that there ever WAS and the BEST that will ever BE!!! AND THAT'S A FACT, JACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LETS GO RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
