It took today's loss in Toronto for me to come to my senses. I must admit that it took a while for me to figure the whole thing out, but I've finally done it.
Someone, somewhere deep in the bowels of MLB headquarters is orchestrating one of the cruelest hoaxes in memory. Believe it or not there is a plan afloat to make Red Sox Nation think that the Tampa Bay Rays can actually overtake the locals atop of the American League East! It is a very convincing plan but applying simple logic to the facts allowed me to see right through this scam! First, in itself, the warped concept of the Rays dethroning the Red Sox is ridiculous.
You and I know that it's totally absurd.
Yes, they had me fooled till now. No matter what we did, we just couldn't close the gap. Crazy thoughts crept into my head ... my god were they really a better team? Then logic prevailed. Of course they're not. The Red Sox will overtake them in the week or so that remains ... right? After all, that's the way the season is supposed to end. There is no way that a $44 million club has any business rubbing elbows with a $133 million team ... right?
You and I know that it's totally absurd.
More logic ...
· We have won two World Series Championships in the last four years.
· We have a better offense. I mean, Papi, Youk and Bay vs. Pena, Longoria and Floyd. Are you kidding me?
· Beckett, Lester and Dice -K vs. whatever their names are. No contest
· We have the league's MVP.
· We've sold out every game since the Beatles broke up.
· We've got the highest ticket prices in the galaxy
· We have Monster seats.
· Even the mighty Bronx Bombers have wilted before us.
· Wally vs. Raymond ... enough said.
Yet in spite of all this irrefutable logic they are trying to make us think we may finish behind the Rays. But we're smarter that that.
You and I know that it's totally absurd.
There are put a few games left, as we are about to begin the last homestand of 2008. We all know deep down in the core of our souls that sometime between now and the last game of the season we will overtake the Rays. It is inevitable. Forget about this wild card embarrassment. That is reserved for teams with $44 million payrolls.
The MLB conspirators have done a remarkably convincing job clouding our logic but do not buy into it.
You and I know that it's totally absurd ... I just hope that someone tells Tampa Bay that too!
