You and I know that it's totally absurd ...
September 20, 2008

It took today's loss in Toronto for me to come to my senses.  I must admit that it took a while for me to figure the whole thing out, but I've finally done it.

Someone, somewhere deep in the bowels of MLB headquarters is orchestrating one of the cruelest hoaxes in memory. Believe it or not there is a plan afloat to make Red Sox Nation think that the Tampa Bay Rays can actually overtake the locals atop of the American League East! It is a very convincing plan but applying simple logic to the facts allowed me to see right through this scam! First, in itself, the warped concept of the Rays dethroning the Red Sox is ridiculous.

You and I know that it's totally absurd.

Yes, they had me fooled till now. No matter what we did, we just couldn't close the gap. Crazy thoughts crept into my head ... my god were they really a better team? Then logic prevailed. Of course they're not.    The Red Sox will overtake them in the week or so that remains ... right? After all, that's the way the season is supposed to end.  There is no way that a $44 million club has any business rubbing elbows with a $133 million team ... right?

You and I know that it's totally absurd.

More logic ...

·                     We have won two World Series Championships in the last four years.
·                     We have a better offense. I mean, Papi, Youk and Bay vs. Pena, Longoria and Floyd. Are you kidding me?
·                     Beckett, Lester and Dice -K vs. whatever their names are. No contest
·                     We have the league's MVP.
·                     We've sold out every game since the Beatles broke up.
·                     We've got the highest ticket prices in the galaxy
·                     We have Monster seats.
·                     Even the mighty Bronx Bombers have wilted before us.
·                     Wally vs. Raymond ... enough said.

Yet in spite of all this irrefutable logic they are trying to make us think we may finish behind the Rays. But we're smarter that that.

You and I know that it's totally absurd.

There are put a few games left, as we are about to begin the last homestand of 2008. We all know deep down in the core of our souls that sometime between now and the last game of the season we will overtake the Rays. It is inevitable. Forget about this wild card embarrassment. That is reserved for teams with $44 million payrolls.

The MLB conspirators have done a remarkably convincing job clouding our logic but do not buy into it.

You and I know that it's totally absurd ... I just hope that someone tells Tampa Bay that too!

Tampa makes the playoff while NY with the highest payroll doesn't. Minnesota moves Santana and let's go of Torii Hunter and may make the playoffs. And the Dodgers pick up a player who more or less stopped playing for a pennant contender and has made them a pennant contender. Go figure!

Play Ball
Yankees Last Home Game: Fenway Still Stands. Thank you! for Fenway Faithfulness! September 21, 2008 Today is that last home game at Yankee Stadium. E.S.P.N has put together a nice piece on the History of Yankee Stadium and honoring past greats is fine. All baseball fans can look back at various players and say, "that guy was awesome!" regardless of what team he played for. Yet as I looked on that program and recognized that Yankee Stadium is historic, I began thinking about Fenway Park all the more. Fenway Park, like Yankee Stadium is historic. Great players have played there, wonderful events have taken place there but that is where the similarities end. Fenway Park still stands while Yankee Stadium has been cast aside for a newer more financially productive place to play ball. Now I don't know what that says to you but folks, I say that is a huge difference between New York and Boston. Boston considered a new place to play ball and fans everywhere cried, "FOUL!". We love our old park, even when we have to sit behind a pole we still love our old park and we love it so much that we made sure no other park would be built. Folks, Fenway is more than just a place to play ball. It is alive with history and it is alive with dedicated fans that want that history to remain alive and well. Now with Yankee Stadium going the way of the big green dollar bill, the only two remaining ball PARKS are Wrigley and Fenway, both built at the same time by the way. Go to either place and you go back in time. Sit in any seat and you find yourself sitting where great grandparents sat to watch a game. Walk through any part of the ball park and you walk in places that men who fought in World War 1 might have walked. Why would anyone want to get rid of such history. Recently a reporter said of Wrigley that Cubs fans do not go to watch a ballgame as much as they go to be a part of the historic place. Guess what? You will never hear anyone say that of Boston Red Sox fans. We cheer on our players, we will sit through those darn rainstorms to watch the game. Heck I used to drive from New Jersey to Boston just to watch a game. When I moved I flew out from St. Louis to Boston to watch a game and each time I go today I make sure to bring my video camera to record to ballpark and my kids reaction to being there. I hope that when my children grow up they are still able to attend a game at the original, historic Fenway Park and that they never ever have to have owners who would rather sell history for a greenback. That my friends is one distinct difference between the Yankees and the Red Sox and it is one of the best differences we can own for years to come. "WE WONT SELL-OUT OUR BALL PARK FOR SOME NEWER MODEL, WE WILL JUST SELLOUT OUR BALL PARK BECAUSE IT IS FENWAY, IT IS THE RED SOX AND IT IS OUR, OUR, OUR HISTORY! Redsoxfa..
Redsoxfan4evr,don't think for one minute that when all the available revenue streams that the Red Sox have now with Fenway Park dry up that they won't look into getting a new park.It has nothing to do with history,it's all about $$$. I truly appreciate how you wax poetic about things in your comment, but the fact of the matter is that it cost $$$ to put a championship team together. There are already enough challenges that any contending team faces when it comes to retaining players and signing FA's;it's not about to get any easier in the future.Money is the name of the game in professional sports from here on out...and the teams have to make money to spend money...nothing new there.Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys is spending $1.1+ BILLION dollars building his new stadium;won't that be an attractive bargaining chip when it comes time to get players ??? It's just a matter of time my friend;enjoy it while it's still around for a bit. ...View More

Redsoxfan4ever, the only reasons we still have Fenway - 1) the taxpayers said NO to the public funding the previous ownership wanted and 2) these guys (Henry/Werner/Lucchino) found a way to make Fenway park work...

That's pretty funny stuff...esp. the part about the Rays pitching staff...you forgot one thing, though: we're faster than them on the basepaths...this will play a factor, as long as Tito doesn't wait until there's 2 outs to PR either Ellsbury or Crisp (like he did the other night)...

your full of clam chowder. as much as i hate to say it, the ray's have a good team. we'll be in the play off thats all that matters right now. we are a better play-off team so we should win. the angels are tho one's that could upset the hold thing.

Relax RemDawg... maybe we'll be Div. Champs, maybe we won't, but I'm not worried because the Sox WILL prevail... besides, Tampa is just this years' Colorado Rockies. Great turnaround season, BUSTED in the playoffs. Enough said.

"Tampa Bay"...sounds like a retirement home with a kiddie pool for the grandkids. No, your conspiracy theory is a little off though. It isn't for 'our' benefit, it's for the Yankee's benefit. Someone thinks that by letting the Rays in post-season in place of the Yankees, it will give them some humility. Nice try.
