My Bad …
October 17, 2008

After about 25 innings of tortuous baseball at Fenway Park, the Red Sox, like the Phoenix, rose from the ashes. Many articles have commented on the fact that this was the greatest playoff comeback in 79 years and the second greatest of all time. No doubt, such references refer mathematically to the number of runs involved in the comeback.

Last night’s game was more than that.

The Red Sox appeared to be emotionally bankrupt, dejected, depressed and otherwise toasted. Leading into the seventh inning I wouldn’t have been surprised if most of them had already chartered Gulf Stream G650’s to go on vacation to places we've never heard of.

They were dead!

Then as if by some form of divine intervention, a proverbial lightning bolt stunned the team and fans alike. It was nothing short of astonishing. So much so, that we already were preparing the script for the post-game, post mortems.  We were debating what changes had to be made for next season ... etc. etc. etc.

We of little faith!

Over the last few years our comebacks are the stuff of legend in Red Sox Nation. Debatably, last night could be put right at the top of the list. It would be the crowning jewel if we were to ……… (I dare not jinx them so you fill in the blanks here).

Shame on me for doubting.

PEACE
And shame on you for making fun of elderly people that may need assistance in walking, 'Remms'. Next time please try a little less creative writing embellishments, speculations, and a little more fact and baseball insight.

We've all had our moments where our faith has been shaken. I've been guilty of it, too. Good on you for admitting it and apologizing. Now, we just need to focus and put our faith in our boys!! Great post, sir! I salute you! LGRS!!!!

As you can see, I have eliminated the comment about the people in St. Pete. Believe me no harm was intended. In fact, my parents are two of them. I appreciate your input. Thanks, Jerry

It's ok some people have no sense of humor. I thought it was funny and for me that's all that counts.

Slaps
Shame on you? Shame on me for turning off the TV after the 6th inning!

See Slaps, that's the whole point, sometimes you have to put yourself in somebody else's place and then see how funny it is. It's not quite as convenient to see the world through a perpective that's not just about you but it does have it's benefits from time to time.

Great blog Jerry - I'm sure the faith was weak in many throughout the Nation! Mr Madman, I can only comment on the edited version because I didn't see the earlier one, but I don't think there's a need for any further comment on what isn't now in the blog? I didn't see it and don't want to know.

Is there anyone amongst us who isn't sorry that Jerry isn't doing the color commentary during the ALCS?? Jerry, I hope the Big 4 networks never get to see your work, because I don't ever want you to leave NESN!!!!

In the good old days, when NBC carried the World Series, it was traditional to have the visiting team's TV announcer call the game for the national audience.

Section15 talks about announcers. We really miss hearing you announce the games here in Chicago. Chip is so pro Tampa I can't watch the game with the sound on. Wished it could be like section15 describes.

Let's be honest folks, did anyone among us when it was 0-7 in the 7th think the Sox would come back? But, those of us who hoped they would, stayed up to watch. It was fantastic! One to remember. Wish you and Don were doing the games Remdawg!
