It gives me great pleasure to write this blog post in an effort to raise awareness about the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon (www.jimmyfundradiotelethon.org). It’s thanks to our faithful Red Sox fans and dedicated Jimmy Fund supporters that this event has witnessed such tremendous growth over the years.
And now, here we are, embarking on our 7th annual event, and I’d like to personally ask the SawxHeads Community for your support in helping us reach our $4 million goal!
The Jimmy Fund was started by a radio appeal in 1948, which raised $20,000 over the course of one week.Sixty years later, the Jimmy Fund is still dedicated to raising funds for, and awareness about, the ground breaking research and exceptional care happening everyday at Dana-Farber – and since it began, in 2002 the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon has raised over $12 million for the cause.
That $12 million dollars has been vital to supporting the doctors, researchers, patients, and families at Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund Clinic.During our 2 day broadcast, you’ll hear the personal accounts from our doctors, our current patients, our survivors, and families of those who we’ve lost.I guarantee it will be a heartwarming, compelling, and truly inspiring experience.
I encourage you all to Tune In to WEEI and NESN over the next two days. Our broadcast will run live from 6 am until midnight on Thursday, August 14th as well as Friday, August 15th.If you choose to make a gift (by going online to www.jimmyfundradiotelethon.org, or by calling 1-877-738-1234), I want you to know that $.90 of every dollar actually goes to cancer research and patient care. The remaining $.10 supports our operational costs.
Last year, 80% of the gifts made were $100 or less – and yet we raised $3.75 million.
That shows that every phone call, every pledge, and every gift made – no matter what size – truly does make a difference.
I thank you for taking the time to read this, and for your continuous support of the Jimmy Fund – an official charity of the Boston Red Sox for over 55 years! It’s because of our Sox Fans, and our Jimmy Fund supporters, that we truly are on the path to raising $4 million, and on course to strike out cancer!
Of, and of course- GO SOX!
Warmest Regards,
Mike Andrews
Chairman of the Jimmy Fund
Former Red Sox 2nd Baseman and member of the 1967 Impossible Dream Team

The Jimmy Fund absolutely rocks. I know our fellow Sawchead, John Gilligan, is doing a fundraiser in central New York. The Jimmy Fund helps everyone, no matter how big, how small, no matter what kind of cancern they have. Let's help Mike turn the double play here!

I had a great night here in the heart of the Evil Empire! I'm actually heading to the Fens to help out there Friday morning. I'll be bringing my first donation installment as well. Great job Mike!
