NEED A LITTLE HELP HERE

Hey Folks.

We've decided that doing a petition for Jimmy Rice is the thing to do. So I'm working on it now.

Instead of quoting stats and what not, I decided to do something a little different and put in what other players think about Jim Rice. Nobody knows how good a player is better than a fellow player.

But I'm having a bit of a problem finding said quotes about Jim. So does anybody know where I can find things that other people have said about Jim Rice?

Lets be realistic here. The only way Jim Rice gets into the Hall of Fame is via the Veterans Committee. Rice is going up against players far more worthy of the Hall of Fame than Jim Rice and in 2009-Rice's final year of eligibility,he's going up against Rickey Henderson. Henderson's a lock for induction in his first year. All Time Stolen Base leader,All Time Runs leader, 2 time World Series Champion,the greatest leadoff hitter in baseball history,25 years active playing service in MLB. There may be competition for the hall against Rice, but I don't think that was the point here. I believe the point is whether Jim Rice, on his own merits, deserves to be considered, which myself and many others believe is true. It's sad that these decision makers feel they need to continually slight him for not being a media darling. You can gather all the quotes from players Jim Rice played with and who played against Jim Rice and those quotes are bullsh*&t. No ones going to go on the record publicly to rip a guy to the media or fans. Get players among other players and they backstab away. Rice does not have the stats that compete with players he's up against. Fans and Rice are using the SYMPATHY method to get in. Thats a terrible way to get in the Hall. ...View More

Speaking of, I don't see a need to Piss on a Guy's Parade unless you have some sort of "Cartoon" Vendetta....hum ??? WTF is up with all this Negativity Dude ?? Psycho- A "real baseball fan"? or a "Homer baseball fan" There's a distinct difference between the two. Red Sox fans are real baseball fans who are not afraid to boo their own players when they slump and stink. They applaud other teams great plays and accomplishments even if they throw a no hitter in Fenway Park v.s. the Red Sox. A "Homer fan" cheers anything wearing the jersey-even Eric Gagne. There's no Vendetta-its just statistic wise Rice isn't worthy when compared to others. The Hall of Fame shouldn't be a place where fans want to put their own players in just because they wore the uniform. Its about accomplishments. Micheal- If I'm a writer who votes for the Hall of Fame and I receive a bunch of positive quotes about Jim Rice by MLB players from a Red Sox fan to get in the Hall of Fame. You still haven't made your case to get me to vote for Rice. Prove to me statistically why Jim Rice is better than other candidates I'm considering. If you can prove that-I'll change my mind. Getting in the Hall of Fame is a big honor and should be based upon what you did on the field not because fans embark on a letter campaign begging for their favorite player to get in. Oh no Chip, I don't think you're stupid because you disagree with me. Some of my closes friends and I have disagreements all the time, we're still close friends. I don't mind people disagreeing with me. I think you're stupid for various reasons, for example Wade Boggs as an RBI guy when he was a leadoff hitter, Beckett's injury-plagued year being because of drinking instead of the fact that we rode him to a Championship the year before, the cartoon of Manny (a news story) when we were playing in the LCS (a baseball thing between the lines). I also think you have a reading comprehension problem as if you read this blog you would have noticed that I wanted the quotes because listing Rice stats has already been done. There is also your latest comment wherein all you did was take my original comments and turn them back on me. "I know ya are but what am I" is so elementary school. Perhaps, Chip, you can't hear Michael because your head is up Rickey Hendersons ass. For someone who claims to be a Red Sox fan you sure are working very hard to prove why Jim Rice shouldn't be considered. Call it playing Devil's advocate or whatever you want. You state number-wise he is not the most qualified candidate. Whatever, others feel differently and support him as one of the better players of his day.
