Tim Russert, RIP
June 13, 2008

Just wanted to put a short piece on here about Tim Russert, who passed away today at the young age of 58.  He was an amazing journalist and a baseball fan, although we won't discuss his favorite team.  Last year, however, he was a good sport and came to Boston to "moderate" the "debate" between the "finalists" (I don't want to get into that, either! LOL) for president of Red Sox Nation.  The people who were at that event had the great privilege of meeting him.  Tim had been the press secretary for NY Gov. Mario Cuomo when he was first elected about 24 years ago.  In 2004, he was the speaker at my daughter's graduation for her master's degree from Boston College, and he was so proud that his son, Luke--his only child--was going to be attending BC in the fall of 2004.  Luke graduated last month.  I am not only a sports junkie but a political junkie as well, and I will miss him so much on "Meet the Press."  And to think that he had a good enough sense of humor to moderate the RSN event.  My condolences to his family, both his wife, son and the rest of his nuclear family, and those of us who considered him part of our on-air family.

'was a bit of a shock to me, though I don't watch NBC. (Fox fan here) I am, as well, a political junkie and I know this will be felt by the whole on-air community for some time to come. Big shoes. I feel badly for his wife and son, who are at this moment, flying back from Italy.

Watching the debates won't be the same this election. RIP, indeed.

This was a devastating loss to his family and our country. Tim Russert was one of the few professional journalists left that was unafraid to ask anyone and everyone the tough questions, and would not allow the individual to tap dance their way out of answering his question. Watching this years election coverage will be a lot less appealing than it used to. RIP, Tim Russert. You will be missed by many. ...View More

Talk about the "shock of the day", the loss of Tim, one of the nicer folks in journalism, is quite sad. I am reminded that none of us are exempt from being blind sided by you know what. God bless his family.

Russert was the best. He was a frequent guest at Fenway. Here is a statement issued by Larry Lucchino... http://www.sawxheads.com/news_hype/2178/11053

Tim Russert was for many of us, the guy next door who made good. He came from very humble roots in Buffalo, NY and never lost sight of where he came from and how important family and friends are. The heartfelt comments from those who knew him best are a testimony to what an amazing man he really was. Those who knew him best and are now giving their favorite Russert story amplify what those of us who didn't know him personally always thought...here's a great guy, tought but fair, with a heart as big as his laugh.I will miss him, the country will miss him and politics will be a little more cynical and a little less honest without him. ...View More
