 the greatest left fielder the sox ever had ? Wow that’s a mouthful .direct and to the point . I will put up a few suggestions and some stats as to why I think they are worthy of consideration. If you have someone I may have overlooked please add them . please respect others opinions . Thank you .
1) Ted Williams (Teddy Ballgame, The Splendid Splinter, Thumper , The Kid ) played 19 seasons 19 time all star , 521 career home runs , 1839 career rbi’s, led the league 4xs in home runs 4 xs in rbi’s, 8xs bases on balls six times in Runs , AL. MVP. 1946 and 1949, 6 time batting champ ,led the league 12 times in on base percentage , and 9 times in slugging percentage , last person to hit 400 hitting 406 in 1941, the Thumper had a .634 career slugging percentage !!! generally considered the greatest hitter of all time . Accomplished all this despite losing four years to military service , was a true american hero
2) Carl Yastzremski, (Yaz) 23 seasons. all with Boston . .285 caree avg. .329 career high , famous for his play in left field but played a lot at 1st base and D.H. later in his career 452 career home runs , 3419 career hits , 1844 career rbi’s, Yaz was also more than just a power hitter he was a fine all around hitter and was excellent on the field , 18 time all star 7 time gold glove winner , league batting champ three times, led the league in hits twice and had 168 career stolen bases , was the last triple crown winner in 1967 with .329, 44, and 121 rbis , he also led the league in runs scored that year (quad crown ) lol. doubles 3 times, slugging pct 3 times, and total bases 4 times , yes he drank Budweiser and smoked cigarettes .
3)Jim Ed Rice (the Boston Strongboy) one of the most devastating hitters of the seventies and early eighties , Jim played 16 seasons, career avg. 298, career high .325, jim was not just a slugger he was one of the best hitters of his time with over two hundred hits in 4 separate seasons leading the league with 213 in 1978. , he had .373 career home runs and 1451 career rbi’s eight time all star and 1978 MVP. He led the league three times in home runs 2ce in rbi’s and 4 times in total bases he also led the league in triples in 1978 with 15, slugging percentage 2ce and extra base hits once , he also led in strike outs one year and hit into double plays, 4 times.
4) Mike Greenwell, (Gator)…12 seasons all with the sox .303 career batting avg. .328 career high avg. 130 career home run’s, 726 career rbi’s 80 stolen bases, 2 time all star finished second to Jose (roid man) Conseco in MVP voting in 1988. Hey jose you cheated give the award to gator ! Best year stats 1988, .325 avg. 22, hr’s and 119 rbi’s races cars and wrestles alligators for fun.
5) Wil Cordero (wife beater) 14 seasons , 2 with sox , took over for Greenwell in left in 1996, career avg. .273 career high , .294, 122 career home runs 566 career rbi’s he was a member of the 1994 all star team .
6) Troy O’leary 11 seasons 7 with Boston , .274 career avg. .309 career High 127 career home runs 591 career rbi’s, Steady player adequate in the field
7) Manny Ramirez (Man Ram) 16 Season’s bulk of 8 seasons with Boston Manny being Manny was just traded . .314 career avg. 331 career high , 524 career home run’s 1716 career rbi’s .593 career slugging pct. 11 time all star , 2002 batting champ with .349 avg. led league once in home runs , once in rbi’s , 3 times in slugging pct and 3 time on base percentage and three times ops was 2004 world series mvp , he played on two world series championship teams with boston . Earned 22,500,000 in 2004
8) Jason Bay , ( boom boom ) ..six season first in Boston , .282 career avg. .306 career high 148 home runs , 488 rbi’s . 55 stolen bases two time all star 2004 national league rookie of the year , up and coming player good fit for Boston.
