Poem
July 29, 2008
In response to the poetry challenge by Blind Faith and Play Ball, here is a positive Manny poem:
Calm and relaxed he prepares to hit.
Focused the noise doesn't bother a bit.
Game plan comfirmed with bat at the ready,
his menacing stare has the pitcher unsteady.
The ball whirls in, a bit outside.
Manny looks and watches it go by.
The pitcher lets loose pitch number two.
Manny watches the ball all the way through.
2-0 count the pitcher knows,
if he throws a strike Manny won't let it go.
The pitcher backs off to gather his wits.
Manny stays calm and ready to hit.
The pitcher lets loose a fastball away.
Manny knows the pitcher must pay.
With a balanced stride he uncoils his swing,
his bat whips through and the ball starts to sing.
The ball ascends way out of site,
deep into the late, dark night.
The Fenway Faithful stand and cheer.
Another Red Sox moment to hold dear.
