An Open Letter to Opposing Pitchers From David Ortiz
February 11, 2009
Dear Opposing Pitchers, I got something you need to know.
Last year I stuggled and my swing was slow.
My confidence was down and I just wasn't right.
Every at-bat felt like a fight.
Injuries and aches, slowed me down.
I could no longer smile, only frown.
I felt like I couldn't help my team.
I blame myself for us not achieving our championship dream.
But I got a secret, you need to hear.
I'm about to have a gigantic year.
I'm finally healthy and feeling strong.
I'm going to prove all doubters wrong.
So, think I'm done and say I'm all washed up.
Tell yourself I'm not Big Papi and just a pup.
Fill your head with this false hope.
This season, I'm going to prove you're a dope.
This year I'm going to fly high.
I predict at least 40 big flies.
Prepare yourself, Big Papi is back.
And I'm about to go on the attack.
Sorry to say, but you're all done.
This is my season to have fun.
Just stand-by and enjoy the show.
Sit back and watch the legend of Big Papi grow.
In closing, don't be mad.
This was not sent to make you sad.
Just a fair warning for you to hide.
Before I put your weak stuff on a long ride.
Much Love,
David Ortiz
