Alex Cora, would you please stand up?
June 29, 2008
Um...hello..
Sox Nation? Yeah, it's me, Moo. I'm talking you you.
Pay attention..
ya listening? Good..
Take a look..
This guy kicks a boat load of arse..
In case you don't know who this gentleman and scholar is - let me introduce you to Alex Cora, back up infielder for the Boston Red Sox. The guy came here from Cleveland back in '05, and has done everything the Red Sox have asked for him. Hell, I'm sure no one will raise their hand right now but around May of last year many a Sox-fiend was calling for Little Dusty's head and crowning Cora the starting second baseman.
Well, it worked out a little differently..but this guy is the man. So, I'm asking someone out there in this God-forsaken, beautiful, fun-loving nation of ours to finally give this guy a litte bit of credit..
wait for it..
wait for it.....
hold on...I can feel it..
Thank you, Boston Globe. Check out this little diddy.
Now, Cora is a guy who I've always liked. Since he played in LA he's always been a little mousketeer, and he's played with grit and heart, where ever that may have been.
Now, I'm a competitive person, and I'm a used car salesmen who sits at a desk all day and works with people who have terrible credit, and I always want more and more and more, and a little more on top of that. Imagine being a professional athelete, your peers are the greatest human (and some, not so human) specimens to ever step foot on the earth, and you....
are relegated to refilling the Gatorade cups when they run out and the clubhouse boy is hitting on Jennifer Garner while Ben Affleck* looks on blindly checking out Beckett's ass on the mound..kinda sucks, no?
But he does it with a certain grace and special touch - which is nice to see. You don't have too many real, gritty 'pros' left in this game. But, one thing that is tantalizing to the baseball section of my brain (two thirds, actually, as the other is filled with moth balls and short circuits) is that this guy is gonna make one HELL of a manager someday. Heck, he might even retire in a few years and manage..
Anyways, I'm rambling, Sox are in an epic battle, and all I'm trying to do is stand on my soapbox, a little buzzed, and shout out some love for Fifel from Fenway..
I'd really love it if one day this guy took over the club, ala Giaradi or something, he seems like the same kind of person Francona is - and whether it's a show he's putting on or not - really seems to buy into the system. So, three cheers, and six sips for Alex Cora..
You may now resume your previous activities, which may not be limited to scratching your balls**
* - I don't know if that's really the reason, but the guy always - always sort of looks like a predator when he's watching the games. Personally I like Matt Damon a lot more anyway...
** Only applies to males and dogs
Resuming radio silence..
