Remembering...
February 17, 2009
Well ok, I'll put it all on the table, before the reg season starts and take whatever feedback you have to offer me.
I am amazed at the ones that can quote stats. Usually this would take an interest in the sport & much time (daily) and voila, you have the current stats at your fingertips.
Well, I DO have an interest in the sport..MORE than an 'interest'. It's in MY blood too. Do you know the one hang up b4 getting married and moving (from MA) to WI was that I get Direct TV with the sports package? THAT was my pre-nup! I'd say that is more than an interest. Our first DATE was a Red Sox game. Again, more than an interst. My dream proposal would have been at Fenway because it is so me..but that wasn't to be the case. I have flown form WI to MA JUST to purchase lottery tkts to the WS ring and those same tckts are framed, on my wall. Think it's in my blood yet?
Time...oh yeah, time...I spend just about every game in front of the tv, home and away..no matter the time. I haven't gone to bed before they're over EVAH..even when they're on the west coast and doing poorly. I used to chk in to this site everyday for the news and rumors. When I visit my mother, I collect all the newspaper clippings, articles that she has saved for me (she doesn't remember to save much anymore or if she has saved it, wouldn't remember why or where it is...alzheimers). I've listened to my brothers and my dad for years and since I grew up wanting to be just like them, I paid attn when they spoke.
But halfway thru the off season last year, I had difficulty recalling Mike Lowells name, couldn't think of who our ss was and at times, have difficulty recalling the full name of Manny Rameriz and Big Papi. I look at the big picture that I have framed over the table and I see the faces but...Then...who plays 2nd base?..or Centerfield? I can 'see' past players in my head but it takes me quite awhile to think of their names if I ever can.
I'm not sure what this is due to..I had menengitis/encephalitis (yeah the kind you die from) when I was a 10 and have been on anti-seizure meds ever since. Maybe it's from the epilepsy or maybe its from the drugs. Maybe it's from both or maybe it's something totally different. I have no idea.
But I just wanted to get this straight, BEFORE we start the season:
I do not think of myself as any LESS of a fan because I can't remember stats, nor do I think that the type of fan I am, can be measured by ANYone else.. I have read all sorts of blogs for this past season where that has been the measure stated by some and agreed by most.
Some may even call me a 'pink hat' though I've been a fan for as long as I can remember (ohh, poor choice of words there...ok, since grade school..early/mid 60's to one degree or another and a diehard fan around the time I graduated HS) .
Now, is this baseball related..YES!! I want to be able to come to a web site, discuss the Sox and not be denegrated because I may not know as much as you when the fact is that I probably DO. Do you know how irritating that is??? Knowing in your head that the knowledge is 'somewhere' but the 'recall' man is asleep at the switch ??
Now I don't think anyone will understand this..I have a hard time understanding myself, these days. I only wanted you guys/gals to think before you go spouting off about how much of a fan you are because of the knowledge you posses. True, you ARE a serious fan..... but so am I.
