Yahoo! fantasy sports and the sox: is justice served? (by the way, join my league)
let me preface this by saying, yes, ive created a yahoo fantasy league specifically for you here on sawxheads. is this a shamless promotion? probably...
ive set it up in yahoo:
"the league to end all leagues" since its set up to be pretty hardcore
is id # 53121 ..... password: redsox
its an 18 -20 possible team league with 10 field positions and 10 pitching positions and 5 bench spots... a total of 18 points available per week 9 for position players, 9 for pitchers. if you wont play all season dont join though. no room for quiters.... and now FOR THE REAL BLOG (which should help you prepare for my league)
what ive done is check how the red sox are rated by yahoo fantasy sports. it goes as follows.

ortiz 17 no, how could the best player on the defending world champs be ranked # 17... thats preposterous.
ramirez 36 sure, for him, this is about right.
beckett 37 what! he almost won the cy young last year! 37th????
papelbon 52 well he only trails jj putz as far as releivers go, so i guess.
dice-k 115 for him its about right, big gap in sox players though.....
ellsbury 126 he's unproven so i didnt expect to see him this high. he could be a big bust or a decent pick up in the early 100's... who knows.
lowell 140 its an insult! he should get only better at hitting off the wall
pedroia 153 should be about right (i picked him up last round at like 850 last year though)
youkilis 162 he was a top 50 player before the allstar break last year i bet he ends up in the 120's by the end of the season this year. great for obp!
buchholz 164 they have him as the sox #3. justice is served.
schilling 200 ... wouldnt take the risk right now
varitek 215 yeah, fantasy stats dont take into account his real value
lugo 216 somebody still likes him i guess
drew 219 yeah, could be a great mid round pick up
okajima 240 an outrage! worth his weight in holds!
lester 242 i expected to see him right there with buchholz
crisp 258 thats a high ranking for a projected 4th outfielder!
delcarmen 526 nah, should be in the 400's
timlin 534 ..... about right, could even lose his spot
wakefield 558 biggest snub on the page right here! he'll get close to 20 wins again.
lopez 566 ok... im cool with it.
snyder 634 worth more on the field than the fantasy screen
moss 691 guess it depends on what happens with crisp and keilty
casey 794 i dont even know why im going this far down... worth a lot if youk gets hurt
mirabelli 840 you couldnt pay me to draft him
tavarez 856 should be at least in the 600's could be a starter
cora 966 worth nothing if lowrie comes up.
notable ommissions... kielty, hansen, kolb, lowrie, carter
is justice served? no! the pitching staff is not given half the credit it deserves. what do you guys think?
